OUR HANDY GUIDE TO FOWEY AND THE LOCAL AREA

Eating & Drinking
You certainly won’t go hungry while staying in Fowey with the wonderful variety of pubs, restaurants, cafes, and bakeries! Some of our favourite spots are…
- Brown Sugar – Our favourite café for brunch.
- Bufala – Pizza and prosecco with water views.
- Fowey Hall – Afternoon tea.
- Fowey Harbour Hotel – Sunset cocktails.
- Fowey River Trading – Grab your cakes and coffee when parking at Caffa Mill.
- Johns – An upmarket off-licence with its own bar.
- King of Prussia – The iconic pink pub on the town quay.
- Kittows – Deli, butchers, and fresh produce.
- Narla – Brand new for 2025, a modern Cornish dining experience.
- North Street Kitchen – Seafood sharing platters.
- Quay Bakery – The biggest and best pasty in Fowey.
- Rubys – The ice cream parlour with their own cow in the window!
- Olive Branch – The place to preorder a picnic to take on days out.
- Sam’s – Serving great food in Fowey since 1987.
- Sunny Spice – The place to head for a good curry.
- Tarquins – Gin tasting rooms and shop.
- The Galleon – Hearty pub grub and lots of live music.

Walking
There are so many hundreds of miles of walks around Fowey and Cornwall that it’s hard to know where to start…
- We personally use the iWalk Cornwall and the AllTrails apps to find great routes. Visit our social media for inspiration too, and feel free to drop us a message if you want some specific ideas. Lucy Daniels is a fantastic local walking tour guide, we highly recommend booking!
- Fowey is on the South West coastal path – 630 miles of walks that wind their way around the cliffs and countryside that make up the south west coast. Heading south from Fowey will take you past Polridmouth Cove, The Gribbin, Polkerris, Par Sands and then Carlyon Bay. Across the River Fowey and you take in Polruan, Lantic Bay, Lansallos Beach and on towards Polperro.
- Hall Walk - A 4 mile circular walk taking 2-3 hours (and two ferries!) that shows the best the Fowey estuary has to offer. Walk through Fowey and head across on the Bodinnick Ferry. Follow the water down to Pont, cross over and make for Polruan. We find the Lugger provides a great resting spot for a well-deserved drink before heading back on the passenger ferry for Fowey.

Beaches
- Readymoney Cove - As you walk through Fowey, stroll along The Esplanade and the cove is right at the end! A lovely beach shop/cafe and facilities here too. Great for swimming with a summer pontoon. Walk up the coast path to explore the old ruins of St Catherine’s Castle overlooking the cove. Dogs are banned during July and August.
- Whitehouse Pool - A tidal pool close to the centre of Fowey, great for kids to have a safe splash-about at low tide. There is also Red Rocket Café here with brilliant water views.
- Polridmouth Cove - If you stay on the coast path south of Fowey, you will then reach this secluded cove. A pretty little beach which is the inspiration of Daphne Du Maurier’s “Rebecca”. Overlooking the cove is Gribbin Head - it’s a tough walk up, but the views are worth it. The Gribbin Daymark (white and red building that looks like a lighthouse!) is owned by the National Trust and they hope to re-open the stairway to the top on a Sundays in the summer.

Days Out
- Fowey - In the centre of Fowey you will find the town aquarium and the town museum, both worth a peek. Or walk along to Readymoney Cove and head up the coast path to St Catherines Castle. There are a huge variety of shops in Fowey, from independent boutiques, well loved chains, and even an old fashioned style sweet shop! There is a shop for everyone in Fowey.
- Sailing – Fowey is a harbour town, and as such there is lots to do on the water! You can hire all sorts from Kayaks to Speedboats. If you don’t fancy playing captain, you can catch a passenger ferry to either Polruan or Mevagissey – we highly recommend the Meva ferry as it takes you out across the St Austell bay where on a lucky day you will be followed by dolphins.
Gardens - You are spoilt for choice for gardens locally! We can highly recommend the 13 Great Gardens of Cornwall, the closest being The Eden Project, Lanhydrock, Tregrehan, and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. We also really like Pine Lodge Gardens just outside St Austell
- Heritage – There is so much to learn about the history and heritage of Cornwall, and there are many amazing National Trust and English Heritage sites such as Tintagel Castle and Lanhydrock House. To learn more about the local mining history of Fowey, we really recommend a visit to Wheal Martyn Clay Museum.
- Cornish Coastal Villages – Fowey isn’t the only harbour that’s worth a visit, there are many other gems to discover along the south east coast of Cornwall… Polperro, Looe, Charlestown, and Mevagissey, are all great to head out and explore.
