- Relaxed and Family Friendly Dining: Sams, The Galleon and Havaeners
- Cafés, Lunch and Light Bites: Brown Sugar, Pinky Murphy, The Lifebuoy Café and The Cornish Bakery

-Take Home Treats: Haveners Fish & Chips, Kittows Deli and Game of Cones
There are several well-loved brand stores in Fowey such as Seasalt, Joules, Fat Face, and Mountain Warehouse. But the real charm of the town lies in the wide range of boutique, unique and independent shops. You can spend hours browsing for clothes, homewares, crafts, glassware, art, antiques, books, seaside knick-knacks, traditional children’s toys and don't forget the old-fashioned sweet shop!
There are also top-quality bakeries where you can find bread, rolls, pasties, cakes and treats. There may be no large supermarket, but with two local convenience stores and a Boots, you'll still find everything you need. There is a Co-op around 5 miles away, Asda and Tesco are around 7 miles, and all the major supermarkets will deliver online shopping as well.
THINGS TO SEE & DO
Fowey is an estuary river town, so the obvious thing to do is spend a day messing about on the water! There are many kayak, canoe, and boat hire centres that go from both Quays. If you don’t have the strongest sea legs, then why not just take the passenger ferry over to Polruan for an afternoon! If you fancy going a little further, you can take the ferry round to Mevagissey too.
In the centre of Fowey there is a sweet little aquarium, and a local museum – both are worth a peek! Fowey has a 14th century church in the centre of the town and a 15th century fort, St. Catherine’s Castle, on the edge of the estuary.
The closest beach to town is Readymoney Cove, which has clean sands and is perfect for swimming. A swimming platform is moored off the beach during the summer months. There is also a fabulous little shop for all your seaside needs. However, no dogs are allowed between Easter and October.
There is a secret sea-pool hidden away at Whitehouse Pier which is perfect for a refreshing paddle while looking out over the estuary. It can only be found at certain times, so check those tide times!
Within a 5/10-minute drive, you can be at Polridmouth, Polkerris or Par Sands, and within a half hour drive you’ll find Carlyon Bay, Charlestown, Porthpean, Pentewan or Mevagissey.
An hour’s drive and you are on the north coast of Cornwall – this is where you will find the more dramatic views, coastline and good surfing on some of the beaches.
Bit of a thrill seeker? Then Cornwall has some fantastic opportunities to get your adrenaline buzz! Hang Loose at Eden have zip wires and giant air swings, Adrenaline Quarry near Liskeard is perfect for a day full of crazy activities, and Retallack Watersports near Newquay is the place to head for total-wipeout style aqua adventures.
There are hundreds of miles of fantastic walks in Cornwall. The South West Coastal Path alone winds 630 miles around the county, and The Saints Way is 27 miles from Fowey on the south coast, right across to Padstow on the north coast. The Fowey Hall Walk is much more manageable at 4 miles and is the best way to see Fowey from all angles! We also particularly enjoy the Gribbin Head walk, especially when the Daymark is open in the summer. Whether you enjoy the sea, woods, rivers, moors or fields, you will not be disappointed with the walks in Cornwall.
The closest major attractions are The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. They really do offer something for everyone and make an enjoyable day-trip. For green-fingered travellers, there are also many other great gardens; in fact, there are officially 12 Great Gardens of Cornwall!
Cornwall is very famous for its tin mining heritage, and you will see many old engine houses dotted across the landscape. The countryside directly surrounding Fowey and St Austell is locally known as Clay Country due to its abundance of China Clay. Wheal Martyn is an interesting museum that gives a good insight into the history and culture of the clay works, and if you take the walk to the top of the grounds it overlooks a modern working pit.
There are lots of National Trust and English Heritage sites across Cornwall, as well as stately homes and gardens. Some of our local favourites are Lanhydrock House, Pencarrow House, Restormel Castle and Caerhays Estate.
Thinking of bringing your 4-legged friend to Fowey? They will love it! Par Sands Beach and Polridmouth Cove are only a few minutes away and are dog-friendly all year round; Readymoney Cove in town allows them to play from October to Easter. Many of the pubs are pup-friendly, and Lazy Jacks even sell doggy ice cream! Sams on the Beach at Polkerris have a Waggy Wednesday during the winter, when you can take your dog for dinner followed by a walk on the beach – special pet friendly treats are on offer too.
If you’re looking for somewhere just for the kids, check out Camel Creek, Springfields, Dairyland, Kidzworld, Indoor Active, Newquay Zoo or Porfell Wildlife Centre. This is just small selection of the many dozens of places for families to visit! Pop into our office during your stay to pick up our “best days out” pack, full of leaflets and vouchers.
Don’t forget to follow Fowey Homes Holidays on social media for inspiration on days out. When booking your trip with us, please feel free to ask for some personal recommendations - we’d love to help you discover the real hidden gems of Cornwall and get the most of out of your time in beautiful Fowey.

we stayed at Jackdaw cottage for 5 days on a short holiday to Cornwall. It was just fantastic, the location was perfect, the cottage was absolutely beautiful and we could stay with our two little dogs. There was also lots of information about local attractions and restaurants and the hosts were only a phone call away: we couldn't get the router to work initially but they came promptly to sort it out. we couldn't have asked for more!

Thank you so much for the hospitality and it is truly a beautiful cottage in a superb setting. Everything within and surrounding was as expected and if not, better, with lots of really nice touches. Will certainly recommend to others and even return once again in the future. Many thanks. S&L

Can't really fault this rental. Guy and Mandy have clearly put in a lot of time effort and money to making it top end, are very welcoming and unobtrusive, and we had a great stay. I would thoroughly recommend it.

Peaceful and comfortable in lovely surroundings. We had a great week and our host Amanda was welcoming and helpful. We had our dog with us and enjoyed the surrounding walks on the footpaths and into Fowey. The town is dog friendly. It would have been good to have had an enclosed area in the garden for the dog. Would love to return one day! The cottage is comfortable and well equipped.

The cottage is located within 15 minutes by walking to Fowey. The cottage is exceptionally equipped with all one needs when staying in a cottage. The beds are very comfortable and the inside very spacious for two to four people. The grounds are a perfect place to allow your pets to roam and for you to sit outside in the warm weather. The hosts are helpful and friendly. The internet connection is very good as is the mobile phone coverage for Vodafone now. We would definitely recommend Jackdaw cottage to those who enjoy small towns like Fowey or enjoy the countryside.

Jackdaw cottage is a beautiful, well equipped cottage in a perfect location. Our party consisted of 4 adults and two dogs. I agree with previous reviewers that the lounge is small for four adults to sit in comfortably (this would’ve been more of an issue in the winter) but the rest of the cottage is spacious. There are 2 big bedrooms and a good sized kitchen with a large dining table. The kitchen is really well equipped with everything you could possibly need (and more!). All the electronic equipment is new and of a high spec. The owners have clearly put a lot of time and thought into creating a home from home. Tea bags, coffee pods, a pint of milk, cleaning products and even a bottle of prosecco were provided. The garden is peaceful, secluded and has a good seating area, gas bbq and wood burner. We met Amanda the owner who was very friendly and keen to make sure that we had everything that we needed. Fowey town is a short 20 minute walk away and has lots of lovely shops, coffee shops and pubs. There are some excellent walks along the coastline which you can start from the cottage so it’s perfect if you want a break from being in a car every day. We had a really great time and will certainly be returning to Jackdaw Cottage next year.

Lovely accommodation. Just as described on the website. Nice touches; stylishly decorated, well equipped, spice rack and sharp knives! Tea and coffee, utility room all make self catering much easier and more pleasant. Also appreciated not having loads of laminated instructions everywhere which made jackdaw feel more homely. Good location a short walk into Fowey and easy driving to explore places nearby. Great outside space around the property. Owner was lovely. The children loved her two little dogs. Five stars.

Beautiful cottage, lovely grounds / garden. The owners Amanda and Guy have spent a lot of time and care in renovating the cottage all good spec furnishings . Very quite and relaxing place to stay. Amanda and Guy made us feel very welcome and was helpful on information on the area. A nice easy walk in to town where there is enough shops, pubs and tea rooms to keep you interested. We have been to a few cottages over the years and this stands out as the best for us.. As a suggestion and not a criticism we did think it needed a basin in the shower room as well as one in the WC room. Thank-you for a nice stay

After a long drive from Munich to Fowey we came to a small paradise and were very warmly welcomed. Living in a beautiful large garden does not have to be a dream. The house is very comfortably furnished. Many small details make the pleasant charm. It's all there, what you need to live. Guy, the owner, lives with his family right behind the house. His two small dogs Zeus and Jupiter also live there. Zeus is a little lion :-). The two little Tibetans have their own garden. Guy - we thank you from the heart for the beautiful conversations and your care. We did not miss anything. :-) :-) :-) We were there for about three weeks. The time was too short to see all... It takes more time to see the country and to feel the people - so we'll definitely be back. Lovely wishes Andrea & Sam, ‘woof '

We absolutely loved our stay at Jackdaw. The pictures really don't do the cottage justice. Its furnished to a very high standard, quirky decor which is fun, but felt very homely at the same time. Having the big garden for our dog Alfie to run around in was brilliant. The walk into town takes about 15 minutes which for us was not an issue, we were lucky we didn't have much rain, and being able to park easily for us was worth staying outside the town for. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone, and Guy made us feel very welcome and gave us recommendations for walks and places to eat. It was great knowing the owners were next door in case of any issues, not that we had any.

A very interesting old cottage filled with some very unusual objects! A beautiful kitchen, comfy bed and very well equipped, perhaps a little cluttered and not ideal for children. Amazing garden lovingly cared for and very quiet surroundings. It is situated in a very quiet location . Fowey is reached three quarters of a mile away along narrow unlit roads. There is ample parking and the owners were most helpful

My partner and I have just returned from a weeks stay at this perfect and beautiful holiday cottage. It's location is ideal and only a very short and pleasant walk into the centre of Fowey. It is uniquely, stylishly and very comfortably furnished. Beds and bedding are of the highest standard and the cottage in general is equipped with everything you require from a holiday home. The garden is sublime and perfect for those staying with dogs. The onsite parking is a real bonus as parking spots in Fowey are pretty much non-existent. Finally our hosts could not be more welcoming and helpful. I would not hesitate to stay in this property again or recommend it to others...

This is a lovely cottage in a quiet location. There is parking and a huge pretty garden. The cottage is V comfortable with high quality fixtures, a coffee machine, good quality towels, duvets and pillows, plus a wood burner. Guy and Amanda were friendly, relaxed and helpful. About a 15 min walk to the centre of Fowey, 20 mins back as slightly uphill. V much recommend.

My husband and I stayed for a week at Jackdaw Cottage, along with two family members visiting from the States - plus our dog. The cottage is charming and full of character and the garden and lawns have been beautifully designed and maintained. (The owner, Guy, is a professional landscaper.) Amazingly, we had great weather all week and spent much of our time in the garden. There is a lovely barbecue area overlooking a rock garden with a vast expanse of lawn stretching out from it. We were provided with all the basic amenities - kitchen utensils, cleaning products, laundry facilities and some thoughtful items for our fridge. It was just a short jaunt to the centre of Fowey, so we enjoyed the best of both worlds: the hustle and bustle of a tourist town and the peaceful, quiet setting of Jackdaw. It felt like a real holiday and we will treasure the time spent there. Just one small thing: It would have been helpful to have the manuals for some of the appliances/machines. We figured out how to operate most, but we did have a little difficulty operating the induction oven/stove top. We weren't sure if there was a fault in it or whether we'd just had one drink too many, ha ha. We meant to say something while there but forgot. Many thanks to Guy and Amanda, the owners, for providing such a lovely holiday venue. I hope we will have an opportunity to visit again.

This cottage was absolutley fantastic. The gardens were incredible and the interior was of the highest quality. The cottage itself had all you would require and more on holiday and was just like a home form home. A 15 minute walk into the town of Fowey and what a delight. This picturesque town is quintessential Cornwall - narrow streets, fishing boats, pasties and cream teas! If you want a high quality property in a first class location, Jackdaw Cottage is for you!

Family batten really put jackdaw to the test with 3 lively sausage dogs and 3 lively boys! We found the accommodation had plenty of space for all of us with a good sized and well stocked kitchen, highly maintained and extensive gardens and comfortable beds. The decor opulent and welcoming made us feel right at home. There is plenty of parking right by the accommodation making off loading of luggage easy. Guy and Mandy were very helpful with suggestions of places to walk, eat and drink. We will defiantly be back to fowey and to jackdaw!!
