There are several well-loved brand stores in Fowey such as Seasalt, Joules, Fat Face, and Mountain Warehouse. But the real charm of the town lies in the wide range of boutique, unique and independent shops. You can spend hours browsing for clothes, homewares, crafts, glassware, art, antiques, books, seaside knick-knacks, traditional children’s toys and don't forget the old-fashioned sweet shop!
There are also top-quality bakeries where you can find bread, rolls, pasties, cakes and treats. There may be no large supermarket, but with two local convenience stores and a Boots, you'll still find everything you need. There is a Co-op around 5 miles away, Asda and Tesco are around 7 miles, and all the major supermarkets will deliver online shopping as well.
THINGS TO SEE & DO
Fowey is an estuary river town, so the obvious thing to do is spend a day messing about on the water! There are many kayak, canoe, and boat hire centres that go from both Quays. If you don’t have the strongest sea legs, then why not just take the passenger ferry over to Polruan for an afternoon! If you fancy going a little further, you can take the ferry round to Mevagissey too.
In the centre of Fowey there is a sweet little aquarium, and a local museum – both are worth a peek! Fowey has a 14th century church in the centre of the town and a 15th century fort, St. Catherine’s Castle, on the edge of the estuary.
The closest beach to town is Readymoney Cove, which has clean sands and is perfect for swimming. A swimming platform is moored off the beach during the summer months. There is also a fabulous little shop for all your seaside needs. However, no dogs are allowed between Easter and October.
There is a secret sea-pool hidden away at Whitehouse Pier which is perfect for a refreshing paddle while looking out over the estuary. It can only be found at certain times, so check those tide times!
Within a 5/10-minute drive, you can be at Polridmouth, Polkerris or Par Sands, and within a half hour drive you’ll find Carlyon Bay, Charlestown, Porthpean, Pentewan or Mevagissey.
An hour’s drive and you are on the north coast of Cornwall – this is where you will find the more dramatic views, coastline and good surfing on some of the beaches.
Bit of a thrill seeker? Then Cornwall has some fantastic opportunities to get your adrenaline buzz! Hang Loose at Eden have zip wires and giant air swings, Adrenaline Quarry near Liskeard is perfect for a day full of crazy activities, and Retallack Watersports near Newquay is the place to head for total-wipeout style aqua adventures.
There are hundreds of miles of fantastic walks in Cornwall. The South West Coastal Path alone winds 630 miles around the county, and The Saints Way is 27 miles from Fowey on the south coast, right across to Padstow on the north coast. The Fowey Hall Walk is much more manageable at 4 miles and is the best way to see Fowey from all angles! We also particularly enjoy the Gribbin Head walk, especially when the Daymark is open in the summer. Whether you enjoy the sea, woods, rivers, moors or fields, you will not be disappointed with the walks in Cornwall.
The closest major attractions are The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. They really do offer something for everyone and make an enjoyable day-trip. For green-fingered travellers, there are also many other great gardens; in fact, there are officially 12 Great Gardens of Cornwall!
Cornwall is very famous for its tin mining heritage, and you will see many old engine houses dotted across the landscape. The countryside directly surrounding Fowey and St Austell is locally known as Clay Country due to its abundance of China Clay. Wheal Martyn is an interesting museum that gives a good insight into the history and culture of the clay works, and if you take the walk to the top of the grounds it overlooks a modern working pit.
There are lots of National Trust and English Heritage sites across Cornwall, as well as stately homes and gardens. Some of our local favourites are Lanhydrock House, Pencarrow House, Restormel Castle and Caerhays Estate.
If you’re looking for somewhere just for the kids, check out Camel Creek, Springfields, Dairyland, Kidzworld, Indoor Active, Newquay Zoo or Porfell Wildlife Centre. This is just small selection of the many dozens of places for families to visit! Pop into our office during your stay to pick up our “best days out” pack, full of leaflets and vouchers.
Don’t forget to follow Fowey Homes Holidays on social media for inspiration on days out. When booking your trip with us, please feel free to ask for some personal recommendations - we’d love to help you discover the real hidden gems of Cornwall and get the most of out of your time in beautiful Fowey.

We had an amazing stay in Cornwall, and Abi’s apartment added to the experience. The flat is a good size, tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The local residents within the building were very friendly. We entered the communal gardens through a small gate, slighly hidden from the view, which can be accesswd from the little footpath to the left of the building. The 10 mins walk to town, whilst relatively steep, is managable. Abi’s instructions were excellent and she was a very responsive host. The key could be collected in town from the safe, so we would recommend parking in the car park at the top of the town and walking down as the streets are very steep and narrow. Fowey is a gem of a place, and offers a variety of activities: boat rides, a nice range of restaurants and some magnificent coastal walks. All in all, we had a brilliant time! Just had the most amazing holiday at Meadow View in Fowey, exceeded all our expectations for our holiday, we did not expect such a fabulous base for our visit. so much to do around the area, we barely moved the car for 2 weeks and when we did we didnt travel far. As this was our 3rd visit to cornwall we wanted to explore a bit of the south, we were not dissapointed, the beaches were smaller and calmer so the kids could go off and still be in sight at all times, therefore it was far more relaxing for us too. Beautiful coves near by, loads of rockpools, Fowey itself is just stunning, its a resort that just keeps giving. the appartment is lovely and in a fab location, neighbours are friendly and helpful. The walk down to Fowey is lovely, there are 2 routes we found, the one leading out from the back of the appartment takes you in the direction of the Bodinnick Ferry but you have to walk on the road for a little way. We asked a neighbour for a better route without roads that takes you past the church in the town. Theres a fab walk down to the beach that takes about 10mins. We managed our beach cart all the way. Would be buggy friendly too, just a little bumpy as its through a wood. Our only difficulty if you can call it that was drying and cleaning wetsuits but i used the airer in the cupboard and hung them over the bath, it was just a bit of a faff and i was concerned about the sand with it not being our house. this is a fab place in a fab location do not over look it.

Fowey is a brilliant destination and we’ll definitely visit again. The accommodation is fabulous with great, far-reaching views and more kitchen and bathroom items than you’ll ever need including fully stocked dishwasher tablets and washing machine tabs. Please note that you will need to provide your own towels and collect the key from a busy Fowey town centre when you arrive. It’s literally a 5-min drive from the apartment but very frustrating to be navigating tiny streets, busy with pedestrians, after a long trek on the road. But that aside, the location is fabulous and Fowey is very pretty. We did the following during our stay: - 45-minute boat ride from Fowey, on Moogie, which was very informative and very funny and would highly recommend. We paid £8 per adult and £4 for the toddler - Trip to Readymoney cove about 10 min drive from the apartment. Tiny bay with toilets and cafe/shop which was busy but a lovely view and close to home - Day trip to Padstow which is about 50-mins in the car. We used the park and ride which cost £5 for the car and busses run every 5-10 mins - Porfell Wildlife Park and Animal Sanctuary which was a highlight. It’s about 20 mins from the accommodation and the last mile or so along a single lane track. The car-park doesn’t look like much but the sanctuary was amazing. £10 per adult and all animals have been rescued or rehomed. We saw peacocks, goats, sheep, horses, chipmunks, meerkats, porcupines, zebras, emus, monkeys, owls and so much more. We also fed deer, ducks and chickens! - Polkerris beach was another highlight. Really pretty spot with a great shop and pizza to die for at Sam’s on The Beach. All-in-all, the property is well appointed in a quiet setting with a beautiful view and is a fab’ location for visiting various places . I’d definitely recommend.

The apartment met expectations perfectly. Whilst it's not particularly spectacular, it is very clean, modern, well located, practical and a very comfortable place to explore Cornwall from. It's also a very reasonable rate. All of which were highlighted in the listing. The views out the back of the apartment over the valley are really beautiful and it would be even better if there was an outdoor area to enjoy them. It is a 10-15 minute walk in to the lovely Fowey (20 min uphill on the way back) and a dedicated car parking space directly outside. Abi was really helpful with the booking and it was easy to check-in and out. I'd definitely recommend this place to a couple or young family looking to explore Cornwall or wanting to be close Fowey but without the hefty price tag.

All the mod cons with parking and only a short walk from the historic centre of Fowey. Beautiful view from the lounge. We would happily stay again.

Great apartment. Decor was great and a very comfortable space. Amazing views too! Parking space is always a plus in Fowey - it is on the outskirts however we enjoy the 10 minute walk after dinner (l can recommend Sams - get there early, Sunny Spice and King of Prussia for evening meals. Brown Sugar Cafe is a firm favourite with great coffee and they all do a lush cream tea......remember jam first!!! The Cornish Bakery's coffee is also great).

We enjoyed a fine week in Fowey. The apartment suited us perfectly. All the home comforts and a superb view over open countryside from the sitting room. Very quiet. Easy walks downhill into Fowey and invigorating walks back. Lovely restaurants and pubs. Numerous National Trust properties in close proximity.

Peaceful and smart. A lovely clean and spacious apartment set on the outskirts of Fowey. Great views from the living room - our children loved the bunk beds and we took a toddler-whose cot was able to fit in the room with them. Greeted with a few basics which were a god send! Alot of care went into compiling the information folder for the apartment and stuff to do whilst in Fowey. Very thoughtful and a great help. We loved our stay very much!
